Old Economy Village

Old Economy Village is home to 17 historic buildings set amidst beautiful gardens, located 18 miles northwest of Pittsburgh along the Ohio River in Ambridge. This National Historic Landmark preserves the legacy of the Harmony Society, one of the most successful religious communal groups of the 19th century.
Founded by German Lutheran separatists under the leadership of George Rapp (1757–1847), the Society aimed to create a utopian community while awaiting the Messiah's second coming.
Visitors today can explore the village's buildings, grounds, library, archives, and original artifacts, offering a glimpse into the spiritual practices, cultural life, and economic achievements of this unique community.
The historic site, located at 1401 Church Street is open to the public Friday and Saturday, 10:00 am—4:00 pm, and Sunday 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm, April - December. The Visitor Center located at 270 16th Street, is open to the public during those same hours and includes two exhibit galleries and an orientation video.

Groups of 10 or more are kindly asked to make a reservation at least two weeks in advance by contacting David Miller at davmiller@pa.gov. For groups wishing to visit outside of regular public hours, please contact the historic site to arrange accommodations.

Visitors requiring special assistance are encouraged to call ahead to discuss their needs at David Miller at davmiller@pa.gov

Please note that hours and schedules may change without prior notice.
