Ephrata Cloister Virtual Field Trip
April 8, 9:00- 3:00 p.m. (including time for breaks and lunch)
In the morning we will explore the Harmony Society, one of the oldest and most successful religious communal groups of the nineteenth century. The Society sought to create a utopia inhabited by German Lutheran separatists who subscribed to the mystical religious teachings of their leader, George Rapp. We’ll begin with an introduction by leading scholar Dr. Donald Pitzer, followed by visits to the three towns established by the Society: Harmony, PA; New Harmony, Indiana; and Economy, PA.
The afternoon will include a visit to Zoar, Ohio, hosted by historian Kathleen Fernandez. Zoar was established in 1817 by German Separatists seeking escape from religious persecution in their homeland.
Tickets for this virtual trip are $20 per screen.
Please note: If you are registered for the History Class series, the cost of the field trip is included in the History Class registration.
Tickets can be purchased HERE.
A Zoom link to join the trip will be emailed to you the week of April 5th. A link to the recording will be available to those who have purchased a ticket but are not able to attend the “live” field trip. Simply email us at Ephrata1732@gmail.com if you will be unable to watch the live event.
