The Young Harmonist Program at Old Economy Village is a volunteer corps of youth, ages 12-18 years old.
As members of the group, the young people are responsible for interactive hands-on demonstrations and activities; stationing and interpreting rooms of the various buildings; assisting docents (tour guides), craftsmen, and state educators during festivals and special events. They can also elect to volunteer at weddings at Old Economy Gardens, working closely with our wedding site representative.
The Young Harmonists meet from11 a.m. – 1 p.m.on Saturdays, once a month from March through June, and September through December. The museum is closed January and February for general cleaning. During these meetings, the group explores general history of the Harmony Society, creates crafts, takes an occasional field trip, and learns what their responsibilities are when on site at Old Economy Village. Although not mandatory, some attendance of meetings in each session is encouraged to keep current. Due to vacations, band camps, etc., we do not meet in July and August, although there are activities they can volunteer for at the Village, i.e., summer camp.
