An American Celebration @ Old Economy Village
Jun 24 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

An American CelebrationEnjoy a “good ole” American summer time celebration for the entire family. Antique cars and bicycles will be on display. Food, historic artisans, musical entertainment, and family style games and activities create a wonderful experience for the entire family.

Take a few steps back to a simpler time when Summer days passed slowly and a cold lemonade beneath a shade tree was the best way to spend an afternoon. An American Celebration at Old Economy Village celebrates the less hectic pace of our past.

This year we will have musical entertainment in the garden as well as a host of other activities.

Noon: Sack races
1:00 3 legged race
2:00 egg & spoon race

We will also have the children’s fire pumper, crafts, cookies, and games for children (and children at heart) to play

Old Economy Village will have 19th century trade demonstrations and other exciting activities every Saturday from April through September. Today’s featured craft is textile production.  The Harmonists were known worldwide for the quality of their textiles and clothing until 1845 when they closed the cotton and woolen mills.  The Harmonists started the process of creating cloth from crossbreeding merino sheep from Spain with local Pennsylvania sheep.  When cotton became more readily available they purchased cotton from the southern plantations.  They used these raw materials and created the wool in their woolen and cotton mills.

The demonstrators will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  To enter the Village, Visitors must first pay admission at the Visitor Center, 270 16th St., Ambridge, PA 15003.  We encourage visitors to take a tour of the Village to understand the unique story of the Harmony Society.  Tour times are 10:30 a.m., Noon, 1:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. If people want to wander through the grounds and focus solely on the trades and crafts they are allowed to do so with a regular admission fee.
