FRIENDS OF OLD ECONOMY MEMBERSHIP

The Friends of Old Economy Village are always welcoming new members to help keep the heritage of the Harmony Society alive. Through the years, the Friends have developed programs with the site which invite participation from all ages and interest levels. Tours, festivals, classes, lectures, and other special programs are an integral part of site activity and have attracted visitors from far and wide. Membership in the Friends of Old Economy Village is open to the public. Different membership categories entitle you to various benefits based on your membership choice.  The Friends hold several fund-raising activities during the year to help support its programming.  Members are encouraged to participate in all events of the Friends of Old Economy Village.

VOLUNTEER

School Tour Guides – Conduct school tours for children, grades preschool through college

Historic Tour Guides – Lead groups through the 19th-century Harmonist buildings and tell the story of the Harmony Society

Traditional Crafts Person – Interpret and demonstrate various 19th-century crafts and trades

Demonstrator – Interact with guests and demonstrate hands-on activities for children and adults

Special Events Assistant – Assist with exhibit openings, special education programs, workshops, festivals, and fundraisers.  Help with family-orientated activities, arts and crafts, musical entertainment, or setup and take down.

Front Desk – Greet museum guests, answer questions, and direct phone calls

Maintenance – Assist our maintenance staff in repairing buildings, snow shoveling, and painting, among other projects

Gardening – Plant, weed, water, and maintain our historic gardens

Data Entry – Work with our curator to input collections information into the computer

Researcher – Work with our curator in the archives and assist in research

German Translator – Help to translate the records of the Harmonists from 19th century German to English
