Kris Hughes serves at the Treasurer of Beaver Valley Area Beekeepers Association (BABA) and is on the board of directors for The Western Pennsylvania Beekeeping Seminar. Kris and her family are a small, local family of Beekeepers. They started keeping bees as a family hobby and it quickly grew into a successful small business. They manage 40 or more hives at any given time in 7 different bee yards to produce local, raw, varietal honey, along with bees and other hive products. Kris enjoys educating the public about bees and beekeeping. This year, their hard working bees produced over 3000 pounds of honey. Their honey is available in 7 local shops, and by contacting them directly.
Kris will share her knowledge about beekeeping, bee culture, and the critical role honeybees play in our planet and how their loss could affect the food chain as we currently know it. Come and see hands on beekeeping equipment and see if you have what it takes to be a back yard beekeeper. She will direct you to appropriate classes and bee clubs to get involved and help sustain the diminishing honeybee population.
