Old Economy Village Gardens
Visit one of the oldest historical gardens in Beaver County, Pennsylvania.
Established in 1824 by George Rapp & the Harmonist Society. This 6 Acre garden is one of the hidden gems surrounding the greater Pittsburgh region and a mere fraction of the previous land originally owned by the Harmonist Society. Original designs were influenced by German monastery grounds and palace courtyards visited by Rapp, often referred to as Father Rapp, prior to exiting Germany. Rapp intermingled quadrants and hedgerows typical of formal gardens with a myriad of trees, shrubs and flowers to create a small piece of paradise at Old Economy Village. Orchards, Vineyards, vegetable gardens and eventual greenhouse provided bountiful harvests. Herbs for medicinal, culinary and dye plants filled beds along with flowers to accent the self-reliant perfection that was the 19th century great garden of Old Economy Village.
