Step into the world of the Harmonists during Old Economy Village’s Heritage Grape Harvest Festival. Experience the traditions of grape growing, foodways, craftsmanship, and winemaking through hands-on activities, historic demonstrations, local wines, and family-friendly fun.

A HARVEST WORTH CELEBRATING

Step into the world of the Harmonists and discover how grape growing, foodways, craftsmanship, and winemaking shaped life at Economy.

 

From the vineyard to the bake oven and from the forge to the wine cellar, experience the traditions of harvest through demonstrations, hands-on activities, historic artifacts, food, and wine.

Grape Stomping – Get your feet into the harvest and experience this memorable grape-growing tradition. 11:00 am & 1:00 pm

 

Old Economy Grape Pies – The famous Village grape pies are back!

 

Historic Foodways – See our bake oven in action with butter making, grape jam making, and open-fire cooking demonstrations.

 

From Vine to Wine – Experience grape juice crushing and demonstrations exploring the journey from grape to glass.

 

Special Guided Wine Tastings – Enjoy two special tasting experiences led by an experienced wine educator and judge. Explore the traditions of German wines and discover the diversity of Pennsylvania wines while learning about grape varieties, winemaking, and the stories behind each glass. Separate tickets required; 21+.

 

Walk the Vines – Join Old Economy Village Horticulturist Alexis Evans for a guided walk through the Village's grapevines and learn about the history, cultivation, and care of the vines. 12:00 pm

 

 Harmonist Wine Heritage – Explore historic grape and wine artifacts and discover the role grapes and winemaking played in the Harmonist community.

 

Wine Cellar Tours – Step into the Village's historic wine cellar and learn more about the traditions of winemaking and storage.

 

Historic Trades in Action – Watch blacksmithing, woodworking, and print shop demonstrations and discover the skills that helped sustain the community.

Hand-Crank Grape Sorbet – Enjoy a refreshing grape-inspired treat made the old-fashioned way.

 

Pick Your Own Grapes – Head into the vineyard and take part in the harvest yourself.

Family Fun Throughout the Village – Scavenger hunts, hands-on activities, demonstrations, and plenty of opportunities to explore.

Local Vendors & More – Browse offerings from local makers, artisans, wineries, and other vendors while enjoying a day throughout the historic Village.

 TWO EXCLUSIVE WINE TASTINGS AT HERITAGE GRAPE HARVEST FESTIVAL! 

Explore the rich connections between German wine traditions and Pennsylvania winemaking during two special, guided tasting experiences at Old Economy Village’s Heritage Grape Harvest.

German Wine Tasting
Travel through Germany’s renowned wine regions as you sample six German wines and learn about the traditions, history, and winemaking practices that shaped German wine culture.

 

Pennsylvania Wine Tasting
Discover the diversity of Pennsylvania’s wine industry with six wines from award-winning Pennsylvania wineries. Learn about the wineries, grape-growing traditions, and history behind each wine.

Both tastings are led by wine educator Kevin Ostrowski, who will guide guests through the wines and the stories behind them.

Whether you’re a wine enthusiast or simply curious to learn more, these tastings offer a unique opportunity to taste, explore, and connect Old World traditions with Pennsylvania’s winemaking heritage.

German Wine Tasting

11:00am - 12:30pm

 

Explore the rich traditions of German winemaking through a curated tasting of six German wines inspired by the regions and heritage that influenced the Harmonist Society.

Guests will sample six German wines while hearing stories of the Harmonists’ own grape-growing and winemaking endeavors. Along the way, explore the history, craftsmanship, and distinctive flavors that have made German wines renowned around the world. Discover the unique characteristics of Germany’s celebrated wine regions and the traditions that continue to influence winemaking today.

Pennsylvania Wine Tasting

1:30pm - 3:00pm

Enjoy a tutored tasting featuring six wines from award-winning Pennsylvania wineries while exploring the Commonwealth’s long and vibrant winemaking tradition. From rolling vineyards to innovative wineries, discover how Pennsylvania’s unique climate, landscapes, and agricultural heritage have helped shape a thriving wine industry.

The tasting also highlights the Harmonists’ own history of grape cultivation and winemaking, creating a unique connection between Pennsylvania’s agricultural past and its growing wine culture today. Six wines. Award-winning Pennsylvania wineries. One taste of the Commonwealth’s winemaking tradition.
