Old Economy Village tells the fascinating story of a group of people that lived there long ago. It tells of their struggles and successes, their personalities and beliefs. It is also the home of the artifacts and archival materials that they created during their lives.

Interested in learning more about our collections? Argus is the online catalog for the Old Economy Village and all of the PHMC museum collections from across the state.

 

Argus provides access to information about artifacts, documents, images and other materials telling the story of Pennsylvania by highlighting the history of the Commonwealth. While it does not include every item in our collection, Argus is added to and updated regularly. Click the link below to learn more.

Research

Old Economy Village is the home of a great deal of information about the Harmony Society and life in general in the nineteenth century. The collection contains six manuscript groups, an historic library, and collections of music, maps, drawings, and wallpaper.  Major topics covered by the archives and library include but are not limited to music, architecture, religion, business, and photographs.

Research is by appointment only. 

Hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – Noon and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
