Volunteer

Please check out the Volunteer Opportunities listed below. No previous experience is required – we offer Basic Training for all volunteers and will make sure you’re prepared!

Why Volunteer?

Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

School Tour Guides – Conduct school tours for children, grades preschool through college, from September through June

​

Historic Tour Guides – Lead groups through the 19th-century homes and businesses of the Harmonists and tell the story of the Harmony Society

​

Traditional Craftsperson – Interpret and demonstrate various 19th-century crafts and trades

​

Demonstrator – Interact with guests and demonstrate hands-on activities for children and adults

​

Special Events Assistant – Assist with exhibition openings, special education programs, workshops, festivals, and fundraisers.  You could be helping with family-orientated activities, arts and crafts, musical entertainment, and setup and take down.

​

Front Desk – Greet museum guests, answer questions and phone calls and transfer calls from the phone

​

Museum Store – Assist customers, operating cash register, aid in inventory and shipment receiving

​

Gardening – Plant, weed, water, and maintain our historic gardens

​

Data Entry – Work with our curator to input information in the computer

​

Researcher – Work with our curator in the archives and assist in her research

​

German Translator – Help to translate the records of the Harmonists from the 19th century German to modern German then to English

Must be able to pass criminal background check and have child abuse clearances to volunteer.
